Well, to call them stupid is too strong. Franklin was dealing with a world where there was a lack of caselaw. They didn't know. Perhaps some defensive thinking might have saved them, but they didn't know that reverse engineering would be ok while copying parts of the code would not be. Later cloners learned from the mistake of earlier ones like FRanklin. Bruce
