WP 1.1 is ProDOS based. It is in pure assembly language (using Orca) and is based
on the 4.x version of MS-DOS WP and the Data General versions (If I recall
correctly, WP was first written on a DG machine.)

WP 2.1 is also a MS-DOS 4.x port, assembled in Orca, uses ProDOS 16, and is
MouseText based.

When we started using MS-DOS machines in 1987 we bought 4.2. For doing word
processing, I still think there is no better product. Newer versions allow the use
of more fonts, and graphics etc. but for just plain writing of letters, or papers,
or even books, if all you want to do is put words on a page, nothing is faster than
WordPerfect 4.2.

I'll be honest with you. Apple ][ version 1.1 is kinda slow on a stock ][ with only
128k of RAM. But if your machine is turboized, and/or has a decent sized RAM disk,
you can see some real speed increases. When I use it on my //e which has a
TransWarp, RAMWorks ///, and a 20 meg hard drive, well, the program flies! A //GS,
of course, is already there.
