John, at least 2 megs are needed to use a HD with system 6.0.1. Four is better.
I've never needed more than four (but I have 8 in the two //GSs that I use -
some of it goes to disk cache)

The best place to upgrade Appleworks is with Texas ][

versions of Appleworks, as well as Timeout utilities.
