hmm seems one for about $30 would make me a killing ;')
i havnt decided on gpl'ing it or low cost retailing it yet...
but i am thinking of three possible designs...
1)5380- scsi on a chip used in the 'pre-quadra' macs
(and the cms scsi card maybe others it was a popular chip....)
2)6522- it is a standard interface chip for the 65xx series...
(i built a scsi card for the atari 8bit a few years ago with one
and if i can find my notes on its design the likly choice)
3)ttl-logic- i found a web site that a guy has a design already
done but it has harsh limitation in its design (tho the
over all design is solid and looks good to keep it simple
he had to make compramises i am not willing to settle for...
4) clone an existing one.... this is ABSOLUTLY out of the question
this is the WORST kind of piracy (my opinions on piracy are odd
to say the least... this stems from the fact i started on a machine
that had its life shortened by several years because of it...

scsi-ii is the only way to go... as for speed this is a factor more
of the software than the hardware.... and while my hardware hacking
skills are above average, unfortunatly 'spaghetti boy sloop' isnt a name
i got from my love of pasta ;') but my controller for the atari was
decent to say the least (if you want details on it let me know...)
it sold about 300 units i am told....
as for my design criteria:
1) must work on //e or IIgs
(it would actually work on any // with right software.....)
2) must support removables
(i will be using a zip for design and progy (backup will be easy ;')
3) use multiple partitions on a disk
(i am not sure how other scsi cards are setup but mine has two active
partitions selectable from the number of 32meg partitions on the drive...)
4) must have a 20mhz 65816 accelerator built in....
(ok i am kidding on this one but hey we need our dreams somewhere! ;')
5) i am seriously considering adding a ramdrive, but my gs has 6megs of ram
so unless this is real popular its not likly (this would be in addition to
the gs ram disk
6) any ideas? 16 i/o lines for making a homeproject?
(that is how my scsi controller started on thee atari, i made this guy a machine
with 64 i/o lines to run a train set and he asked about using 8 + a few
to hook up a 20meg scsi hd he had.... so i finished the design on it
and he made the software...
let me know of any thoughts comments or info (i have very little on the apple side
so any would be helpful...)
also whats so wrong with the cms scsi card? i have one in my machine hooked to a
zip and i havnt had any problems with it (it even handles when i eject the disk
while booted from it acceptably.....)

i noticed there is a shortage of scsi controllers for the apple //'s
is there a market for a new one to be designed?
(i am a little bored and am considering a new project ;')

ABSOLUTELY. If you can get your hands on the RAMFAST though, that'd be
the one to clone...but if you're gonna do it, how about throwing in
SCSI-2 compatability as well? Might be neat to hook up some newer h/w to
the II...

I have an Apple Rev C SCSI card. It looks like it would be easy to clone.
There are two PALs and two large chips--an NCR 5380 and an RCA 6264. The
rest are all 74 series chips. I know that the Rev C is considered to be
almost the least capable of Apple II SCSI cards (only the CMS is beneath
it), but I have been very happy with mine.
