Mac to Apple transfer - PLEASE HELP!

Hi,

I have a PowerMac running OS 8.6 and an Apple IIgs ROM 1, running ProDOS 8.
I have no other software for the Apple II, so I want to be able to download
programs with the Mac, then save them to a ProDOS 3.5" disk, and make it
usable on the IIgs. From what I understand, I need to get DISK2FILE program
to convert the DSK images, which requires SHRINKIT program, which in turn
requires BINSCII program. In the BINSCII instructions, it says that once
you put that file on the ProDOS disk, to type "exec binscii.exe", and the
rest is history, so to speak.

Well, every file that I transfer to the ProDOS disk on the Mac get a $00
file type, which is pretty much unusable on the IIgs. The "exec" command
gives me "FILE TYPE MISMATCH" error. Unfortunately, I only know two methods
of changing the file type without any additional software on the AII side:

1. ProTYPE program for the Mac - It simply dosn't work for me. It does
change the icon picture to a generic one, and shortens the file, but once I
transfer the converted file to the ProDOS disk, it still appears as type
$00.
2. Using "BLOAD BINSCII.EXE,T$00,A$2000" - gives me a "FILE TYPE MISMATCH"
error.

At this point I'm in a classic "Catch-22" situation, and I can't find any
help on the net beyond the two suggestions above. Can anybody help me,
PLEASE? I'm about to start pulling my hair out...

Thanks for ANY suggestions,

Margaret
