Yep.  I figured I'd use that as the basis - make a page for each clone
he has listed (and a few that appear to be missing), appropriate the
pictures that came from auctions under the assumption that nobody will
complain, and contact the owners of all other pictures to see about
getting permission.

I don't suppose anyone knows how to get in touch with Ernest (owner of
apple2clones)?  I have two old email addresses for him, neither of
which works.
