I concur completely as I have done this myself.  Replace the 800k drive
mechanism with a HD Mac mechanism.  ($5 used)  It will work fine as an 800k
mechanism as is until you find a HD controller.  After that it will act like
a superdrive (HD) mechanism and read whatever you shove in there.  :)  I was
fortunate to run into an unused controler on the box recentl;y and got my GS
reading 1.44 PC floppies now.  :))
