Here is a snip from the newsgroup FAQs about color rgb monitors which can
be used with the IIgs:

015- I need a new RGB monitor for my GS. Which monitors can I use?
I have good information that the Commodore Amiga 1084s monitor will
work with the Apple IIgs. I have no information on the quality of the output.
I've seen some Amiga displays that look no better than your average colour TV.
Perhaps the local WAL-Mart will have a few in stock at a low price.
You will need to build your own DB9 to DB 15 cable.

Magnavox equivalents for the Commodore monitors exist. 8CM515 is one
model number and there is at least one more.

I just tried a Sony CPD 1302 multisych monitor on a GS and it works
perfectly. Very crisp picture. I used a standard cable from a Mac II.

You should keep an eye out for any analog RGB monitor that can
horizontally sync down to 15.75 kHz. These include:
AppleColor RGB Monitor (model A2M6014, the IIgs monitor)
Commodore 1084 (and variants such as the 1084S)
Commodore 1902 (although most of these only do digital RGB)
Tandy CM-8 (not sure about model but it was used with the Coco3)
Atari monitors used with the ST series (sorry, don't know models)
Some TVs
