Perhaps the oversight is within the file system? Does a ProDOS
subdirectory contain a directory named ".." ???? An MS-DOS/WIndows
directory does, and a UNIX directory does. The ".." subdirectory
entry is linked to the parent directory, and that's why "cd .." does
what it does.
Perhaps you can do some "surgery" on a ProDOS disk, creating a
subdirectory entry named ".." and linked to the parent directory?
If you do, perhaps "cd .." then will work in ProDOS too?

INT can be given a quite interesting new meaning, by replacing
Integer Basic with the S-C Assembler, loaded right into the Language
Card (or equivalent RAM). The S-C Assembler is so similar to Integer
Basic that Apple DOS doesn't notice any difference -- it even saves
its assembly source files as "I" (Integer Basic) type files on the
disk! And if you are in Applesoft, but have Integer Basic replaced
by the S-C Assembler, doing "LOAD <filename>" where <filename> refers
to an S-C Assembler source file will make Apple DOS automaticaully
invoke the S-C Assembler!
Bob Sander-Cederlof, author of the S-C Assembler, has recently agreed
to let me release his assembler (including its source code!) to the
public domain! So expect it to be made available shortly.
