This does not deserve a smiley. Toasters and heaters are dangerous *if
plugged in*, but generally are not dangerous when unplugged. Monitors,
however have high voltages present *EVEN AFTER THEY ARE TURNED
OFF AND UNPLUGGED*. The energy STORED IN HARMLESS LOOKING COMPONENTS
can be easily discharged by someone using the wrong tools in the wrong
place without *extreme caution* and use of proper safety procedures.
If that energy ends up in the wrong place (e.g. one's heart), it can
cause serious injury or death. This is not a laughing matter.

This message, like other messages on this, or any other message board,
do *not* constitute proper training to undertake this kind of work.

I will not comment on Paul's comparison to activities engaged in by
a much larger number of people. I will mention that people (like sports
commentator Dick Vitale) have lost eyes to pencils. Monitors are cheap,
people shouldn't be.
