Another outside perspective on this, here...

1) Ultima I/GS will be available for sale.
2) It's safe to assume that if you are selling a new version of the
software, that you would be selling the old version if you could; thus,
unless some kind of special agreement has been made, the old version is
not free, especially when the old version is pretty darn close to the
new. You don't really even need to know much about copyright laws!

Again, it is up to us to be proactive, and to salvage the reputation we
have as the A2 community. Otherwise, the Nathan Mates episode will be
repeated again and again. Honestly, do we really want to drive away even
more developers and resellers? How do you think we got here in the first
place? I think it'd be a good policy to remove the material BEFORE it
becomes an issue, if you even suspect that you're in copyright
violation. I wouldn't say you'd have to be anal, just use the two rules
above. :)

All this said, I'm not an Ultima fan at all. But the fact that someone
is developing and selling software for the gs is simply awesome, and I
say a round of kudos for all involved.
