Huge progress was made today. The project has aquired some financial
backing from an investment firm. The project has to date delivered very
promising designs capable of pushing the limits of IIgs hardware. The
bus of the IIgs will be sped up to 2Mhz from 1Mhz. This doubling of the
system bus will allow faster access times, video that can drive VGA
(30Khz instead of 15Khz), faster serial ports and faster disk access.
The accelerator itself will sport 2Megs of static RAM to act as cache,
64Megs of SDRAM, disk on chip, and the ability to use multiple
processors from the 8088 all the way up to the Intel Celeron. There are
some technical problems with the bus and will not be able to support
Pentium IIIs or AMD's Athlon. Heat dissipation could cause problems so
a 20lb heatsink is being designed by a sub contractor.
The cost of each accelerator is estimated at $1000 a piece, but as
demand increases price will decrease. This has been an Accelerator
project update.
Sincerely,
AFD
