ECE Midi Unit...

I've picked up an ECE midi unit at a thrift shop and it looks like
something that may have been used with an Apple IIe.

It had midi in, out and thru via 5 pin din slots on the back, a flat cable
ending in a db25 female connector and a db25 male socket connector on the
box.  It has a push button on the front of the box labelled (IN-midi)
(OUT-RS-232).

Is anyone familiar with this unit?  Where do the db25 connectors figure
in?  Are they SCSI?  Does this unit require special software?
