Mystery card - help!

Another one for you experts to help out with...

This is a card made by Adaptive Peripherals, with a battery holder for 2
AAA batteries on the back. Made in 1984.

The front is filled with various chips and has a ribbon cable that goes
to a small white box that attaches to the side of the system unit. This
has a toggle switch next to a red light, two small jacks (1/8"?), and
what looks like a Centronics-type connector.

Any ideas? CC to e-mail as well as post replies, please - I can't
always get to the news server when I want to.
