Smear? Do you refer to the way the RGB monitor displays colored
horizontal lines as contiguous rather than as separate dots?
I rather like that feature! I also don't know of a way to turn it off.
Or rather, I do, but that also turns the color off. So you get 280
discrete dots, but only in black and white. Perform a 

POKE 49193,33: POKE 49278,0: POKE 49246,0

while the system is in HGR mode. This only works if the 80 column
firmware isn't active, i.e. after a PRINT CHR$(17).
