Raised from the dead

My 2GS (ROM V1 w/ a 1.2 Meg Apple RAM card) has been sitting in the
loft for many years. The other day I plugged it in and it works fine
except that I get a PRODOS error with every disk I try to boot with. I
ran the self test and it checks out OK. I suspect that the 3-1/2 drive
is misaligned or has another fault. Its also possible that all of my
disks are contaminated because all of my electronic equipment has had
difficulties ever since a transatlantic trip and I suspect my things
were exposed to salt air -- another story. I any case, I have no 2GS
software and a drive which is suspect. I have a 5-1/4 Laser drive which
works fine with some software I borrowed from my sons school. From a
previous posting I learned about Altech electronics. They advertise a
Focus hard disk w/ system and GS works and other software installed for
$109. Does anyone have any first-hand experience with this hardware or
this company? This package gets me back into a 2GS with better
hardware and software then I had before. I have a soft spot for the
Apple2 and I'd like to engage in a little applebasic programming with
my kids. Also, will system 6.0.1 and AppleWorks GS V1.1 work with only
1.2Meg of RAM. If anyone has any info, I'd appreciate all replies.
