To Jeff Blakeney - please read - but, there's no need to reply - as we all know
your mind is set in your ways. Your consistent campaign to make all that exist
in the REAL world and the Apple II world - 100% legal bemused me to no end.
Can't you comprehend that your efforts as a moral preacher within the Apple II
community is not going to change anything or anybody? The majority of the
people
know what is legal and what is not legal and they can make their own decisions
on what and what not to do. They don't need you to point it out to them - over
and over again! It's not going to alter what they do or don't do.
I may not have any teeth (as one of your close Delphi friends pointed out in
the
past, with a post on this newsgroup) but, I do know how to do a REALITY BITE -
when needed. And, you Sir - do need a reality bite!
The world is not perfect nor 100% legal and try as you may to make it so - it
never will be!
The same goes for any world or community on this planet (including the Apple II
community) - be it a virtual world/community - on the Internet - or the real
world/community we all live in. It takes a left and a right to make a whole -
with anything. A negative and a positive exist with all. there is no mono
pole,
there is no perfect community, world or person.
Now concerning your posted reply to Rubywands below - here comes mine to you on
it all - read it clearly and read it carefully.

Jeff, you are so skilled at cutting things off at the best part - WHY? I'll
tell
you why - because that's the style of any self-proclaimed do-gooder,
hypemeister
or crafty politician - trying to move the masses to their way of thinking on
matters they can't comprehend the reasoning for or the need of.
NEXT YOU STATE:
"The copyrights on those titles don't expires for at least 30 more
years. Deal with it."
Jeff...you deal with it. What you said above is to vague, generalized and
assumptive - at it's best (as are most of your comments), So much so -
that it's really of no use to respond to it in any more detail here.
>(maintained on sites
>which have a standing offer to remove it if so requested by the copyright
>owner),
Jeff...next you stated:
"There has been at least once that this "offer" was not honoured and at
least once where it took a lot of effort on the copyright holders part
to get their stuff removed. Regardless, this offer still does not
make the archives on these sites any more legal."
OK Jeff...prove that in a court of law then and itemize your above claims, if
you can! "At least once" (exactly what once might that be then)? Like I
said
- nothing is perfect and if you have a formula to make it perfect - I'd love to
hear it. Even if there was an "At least once" - that's not such a bad
tally.
>it will be necessary to, at least, observe that such claims are
>nonsense.
Then Jeff...you reply to that with this:
"I get such a good laugh every time I read this. :-)"
That's nice that you get a good laugh Jeff. A good laugh is often the best
medicine for a closed mind. I get a good laugh every time I read most of your
comments too. Just as I'm sure you do with mine.
> The last thing a user who helps a newbie looking for assemblers, BASIC
>editors, etc. needs is to be put down on an Apple II newsgroup when he/she

Now Jeff..here you related:
"I don't put anyone down. I just like to remind people that the
"out-of-print software" that a lot of people are pointing them to is
still legally protected by copyright law. Some people actually
appreciate it when you stop them from breaking the law."
Jeff...you may conclude that you dont put anyone down - but, I and many others
I know well - think that you do and you do so often also, in most of your
posted
replies. Even if YOU dont see it, many OTHERS do and have posted that they do.
Think on this one. It's ALL still legally protected by the copyright law
unless
it's public domain. That doesn't mean it's not legal or that people break the
law when they obtain and use it - unless the owner says so. Thats what it
really all come down to!
> Jonathan got off to a good start in mentioning Asimov. Here is a listing
>of the main Apple II software archives:
Jeff...here's a classic example of your attitude and the nature of your mind,
your campaign to move the masses towards your own views and so on - with this
comment and reply:
"Let's take a look at these sites:
>Apple Cabi.net (ACN) sites-
> ACN Florida
> ACN Tarnover
>Apple IIgs Gaming Memory Fairway
>Asimov
>Asimov Mirrors-
> Georgia Mirror
> ACN Florida
> ACN Tarnover
>XGS
Very little on these sites is there legally."
Can you itemize and prove that statement with facts - rather than your own
vague
assumptions? Have you actually researched EVERYTHING on those sites and proven
LEGALLY - that "Very little on these sites is there legally". And your use of
the word Lets - really does seem to show that you conclude you are the
power,
the controller and the person thats overseeing the masses that make up your
world. Even your self-proclaimed title of Dean that you use - shows this
clearly. And, Im not putting you down Jeff. Im simply telling it like I see
it with respect to you.
You remind me a lot of the Church Lady Character that Dana Carvey did on
Saturday Night Live. I even showed your collectives of CSA2 posted replies
to
a friend of mine whos a well respected mental health researcher and skilled
psychiatrist for his comments about your views and post content. He thinks you
suffer from a superiority complex, delusions of grandure, social anxiety
disorder and an obsessive compulsive disorder. I agree with his conclusions.
>Uni-kl.de Apple2 U. Kaiserslautern
Jeff, now you completely contradict yourself here with this comment:
"The last time I checked this site it had quite of bit of software
being made available illegally on it as well as a fair bit of legal
stuff. The problem is, there is no way for users to know what is
legal and what isn't."
Jeff..the REAL problem is - you see things only in the way you want to see
them.
Can you actually prove LEGALLY the claims you made above? Are you anything
other than just a user also? I say you are just a user - like all of us are!
And, as you stated above: "there is no way for users to know what is legal and
what isn't." So, then - how do you conclusively know - what is legal and what
isn't on that site or on any others - for that matter?
>Apple2 Caltech
Jeff...here you state:
"The last time I checked this site, it seemed to be pretty much all
legal archives but it is a pretty old site and doesn't have the
selection available in other sites."
I'll agree with that 100%.
>Ground Apple2 U. Iowa
Jeff...now you express YOUR minds view in full on Ground - as follows:
"This site probably has the most Apple II software on it but
unfortunately some illegal archives have been and probably still are
on the site. However, as most of the archives are legal, it is my
second choice of sites to send people to."
And, like I said before - NOTHING IS PERFECT Jeff! Not Ground, not
gno.org/Trenco, not Delphi - not anything - can you understand that?
The key words you place the most value on in your above statement are;
probably,
however, choice, sites, send and people. To me that sounds like the vague
methods a skill politician and/or moral preacher uses to try and move the
masses
to their own way of thinking. And, again - it sounds like you are placing
yourself above the mass of people in importance too.
>GS WorldView 'zine
>USA2WUG
And now Jeff...you give your ultimate grade concerning my efforts with my own
website with this comment:
"I tried to look at a GS WorldView issue a couple times and have given up
because it hardly ever has anything legal that isn't available elsewhere and
the
organization and content of these places leave a lot to be desired."
Giving up - after a couple oftime doesn't sound like much of a real effort to
me.
We do try and have been trying for well over five years now to give most of the
people that visit and value the contents of my website - what they have asked
for
on this and other newsgroups, in an opened, legal and easy to navigate style.
Most of
them seem pleased and happy with what is offered there also - from the feedback
they have given me over the years. Having a five year collective of well over
500 MB's on a website like mine now does - certainly have some things that
would
no doubt - give a person with your overseeing attitude, set-in-mind nature and
personal views of select places, people and things - a lot to be desired.
We do try our best - but, we can't please EVERYBODY. We full well know that
nothing we do could please you, no matter how much we try!
Jeff with this final comment - you show your extreme displeasure with the
omission of the Trenco FTP site:
"And to top it all off, there is no mention of the Trenco FTP site which is
constantly growing and is kept as clear of illegal archives as possible. The
URLs are:
http://www.gno.org/pub/apple2
ftp://ftp.gno.org/pub/apple2"
You say: ""And to top it all off" - Oh...PLEASE Jeff, if thats not putting us
down, I dont know what is. Rubywand and I have mentioned the Trenco and/or
gno
site often in our posts on this and all other Apple II newsgroups, on our
websites and the site is included in the Apple II FAQ's each and every month
also.
I upload to the site also. What more could you ask of us concerning it?
And you failed to CLEARLY mention that it's an http access site as well as an
ftp access site - (other than with the vague URL reference to that effect).
Additionally, you seem to have overlooked the need to guide people to it - with
ease - by putting the URL's of it by both references - in brackets like this:
<http://www.gno.org/pub/apple2>
<ftp://ftp.gno.org/pub/apple2>
So, you see Jeff...I can nitpick on matters just as well as anybody. :) And
again, I point out - nobody is perfect. Not you, not me, not Rubywand - not
anybody - no matter how hard we try to be! And, no matter how much we try to
make each other perfect, 100% legal, proper or correct - that's never going to
happen.
Im sure you and many others can find mistakes, errors and so on - in this
posted
reply of mine on all the matters Ive expressed. And, to those of you who do -
I
say, such is life on the Net and in the real world. If you dont like my style
of
posted replies, dont read them and please dont try to change me over to your
way of thinking, doing and views on matters. Because you wont. I am what I
am
and Im happy with it.
