I had a monitor like this once and what I used was a product designed for
filling in scratches on CD's...it worked really good...I can't tell that
there was a scratch on that monitor.  The CD repair kit did come with a
cloth for polishing the CD.

I don't make any claims that this will definitely work for you, but it
did work for me...

PS. Plus there is the possibility of the monitor being weaker like
Louis said.
