Re: Q:How do I burn my own ROM01 for a WOZ GS?

While the following intro of this post is not directly an answer or solution to
the fellow in Europe - who wanted to upgrade his Woz IIgs ROM 00 machine to
either a ROM 01 or ROM 03 machine (the closing part is).

I thought I'd toss this in for discussion, comments and some feedback on the
possibility of such a thing. I have a friend that is working on a personal
project of a custom replacement ROM for the IIgs that would in effect include
the GS/OS v6.01 with all the current upgraded patches, etc. - as well as the
standard ROM 01 contents.

I'd guess - if and when it's done (as a personal prototype ROM of course) - you
could call it a IIgs ROM 04 or 05??? That's what he was thinking of putting in
it for the boot screen on the IIgs.

I recall somebody made apost to thisnewsgroupfrom some place in canada
lastyearI beleive that they had a IIgs that had been hacked to give the message
of ROM 05 on the screen - when the IIgs booted up. Never heard any more on
that though??? Maybe somebody coulddo a newsgroup post rchive search on
thekeyword 'ROM 05 or ROM 5' to find the original poston that, if they want to.

Anyway, back to this custom/protype IIgs ROM project issue - I was just
wondering - if such a custom/prototype IIgs ROM could be made and then replaced
in the ROM 01 machine - whould it - in theory - allow an auto-boot with the
GS/OS??? I'd conclude that the ROM 03 (having two ROM chips) would present a
different situation with making such a direct ROM chip replacement.

So, does anybody know if such a custom/prototype IIgs ROM replacement would
invoved any addition work, replacements and/or modifications to any other parts
of the IIgs ROM 01 native motherboard?

Looking forward to any comments or feedback anybody cares to offer on this.

BTW, I have a fairly good stock of spare ROM 01 IIgs motherboards on hand and
would be willing to send one to the person that wants to do the upgrade from
the IIgs Woz machine motherboard to a ROM 01 motherboard, freely and without
any charge - if you'll send me an email reply with your exact mailing address
where I could send it on to you.

In that way - all you'd need to do is simply swap the motherboard.
