Thanks for all the replies.
I have been reading all my past emails from Nick. I believe the F8 rom
was read _in sit_ as Michael explained. But the character ROM was
removed from the motherboard, and placed on the Super Serial Card
(SSC) and it's contents was read from there. Quite a trick! I remember
now being quite worried about doing this at the time.
