Somewhat newbie question

I consider myself a fairly advanced computer user, but very new to the Apple
/ / gs (spacing to keep OE5 from screwing up).I just got a gs as a gift.
The question, I have DOS 3.3, without the system disk, and want to know, is
that what I need to format new disks? Or do I get it somewhere else? I have
several 3.3 bootable disks with games and the like. If I need the system
disk, could somebody attach or post a link to an image? I am working to get
a serial link hooked up.

Speaking of that, I have a / / gs, with modem and printer ports, and a
laptop with a standard DB-9 serial port, Is this right?
gs modem port -> MAC modem cable -> null modem adapter -> Cable I have with
MALE DB-25 and FEMALE DB-9 plugs
