The traditional place to put a hard drive is Slot 7, with that
slot set to 'Your Card'.

The major communications software can still see the modem
port even if this slot is set to 'Your Card' so if you need an
extra slot to use, set this one to 'Your Card'. I have my SCSI
card in slot 2 and the slot set to 'Your Card' yet I also have
a modem in the modem port.

Is your IIGS a ROM 3? If it is and if you don't use much
mouse based ProDOS 8 IIe programs, set this slot to
'Your Card' because GS/OS and IIGS software will still
see the mouse even if you set this slot to 'Your Card'
and use a card in slot 4.

This does not apply to a ROM 01. GS/OS and IIGS
software will ALSO lose the slot in a ROM 01 if this
slot is set to 'your card'. This is a nice feature of the
ROM 3.

The StyleWriter is great for the IIGS, but it only works
under GS/OS. System 6.0 and System 6.0.1
specifically.

Printers traditionally go into the printer port with that
slot set to 'printer'.

Why do you need so many 5.25 drives. ;-) Two is
more than enough. Skip the single 5.25 drive. Skip
the DuoDisk card. Plug the DuoDisk into the last
3.5 drive. The IIGS should see all four drives.

Ideally, you should repartition the Focus into four
partitions. Two small 32MB ProDOS ones and two
large HFS ones split between the remaining space.
(HFS has a maximum partiton size of 2GB, a
great benefit when using the IIGS.)

You need to first run the FocusFormatter and then
partition drive by deleting all but four partitions.
Your four 32MB partitions don't fill the Focus, so
you resize the last two (equally) to fill the remaining
space. Then format all four as ProDOS. Now you
have what appears to be four 32MB ProDOS
partitions, but remember, the last two are really
larger but limited by the ProDOS file system. So
then you need to install GS/OS onto the Focus
drive. Besides doing the Easy Update, you need
to click on Customize from the System 6.0.1
installer and select the HFS File System (FST) to
install.

Once you have the HFS FST and GS/OS installed,
boot the Focus. Select one of the last two ProDOS
partitions. Select Format from the Finder (Finder,
not FocusFormatter) and select HFS as the file
system. Format the partition. You should have
a huge HFS partition now. Do the same with the
other big partition.

Now you have only four partitions, two small ones
and two large HFS ones. You will never again need
worry about having enough slots to map to. ;-)

Good luck!

P.S. Make sure you have the Focus driver! If you
don't, download it from Alltech's site. Without the
driver in System 6.0.1's drivers folder, GS/OS will
not see more than two partitions and the Focus will
seem S-L-O-W!
