This is what I mean. There are different people. It depends on
what you want from the system. I have a cousin who has a
1970's era Pontiac LeMan. He tweaks it, waxes it, keeps it
looking like new. Quite amazing really. It has been upgraded
like crazy. There's a CD-player inside, alloy wheels on the
outside. He had to do some things to the engine when they
phased out leaded fuel.
But some people think it is a waste of time. That such an
old car is a piece of junk. Why not get a new car? If you
like the Pontiac and even that particular model name, why
not get the 2000 version? It will do the same things. It will
drive the same roads.
But the 2000 version, no matter how superior in its own
merits, will never match the 70's model for those who love
that model. To them, the 2000 version is just something
with the same name pretending to be something it is not.
I believe those who prefer emulators are the practical
people. Sort of like those who feel a new model year
car with the same nameplate as a car they had 30 years
ago would bring back enough memories but provide
better performance. This is a very practical way of
thinking about it.
But the true enthusiasts would settle for nothing less
that the real thing. For driving, we might have a newer
auto as well, but we would never part with our classic.
It is really something emotional rather than logical. If
humans were only logical, we'd have no art and no
hobbies. No enjoyment. Thus, for those who do not
understand the need for some folks to get the real
thing, that need can really not be explained in words.
