I'm not really in the "you just can't beat the real thing" camp.
For me, it's a matter of practicality: I use different machines for 
different things; what they are best at.
It's simply of making the choice of using the right machine for the job.
If I need to make a quick and dirty little program, like print a list of 
some mathematical function values, I use the Apple II. Just turn it on 
and press reset and it's in Basic. The Mac cannot do that.
If on the other hand I want to do something like edit a scanned 
photograph, I always use the Mac. The Mac is better equipped for that 
kind of thing.
And if I want to see full screen-full motion video, I use the VCR and 
the TV.
See what I mean?
