Re: Y2K and P8 TN #28 (Re: No-Slot Clock)

Dave, while I agree with you and I expect this issue has already been resolved,
let me tell you why Glen's idea was good:

One thing Apple II users like to do is sort directories. We sort by alpha,
size, type, cre/mod date, and then we reverse all those to sort it even more.
Give me a directory, and I'll sort it. Two programs accomplish this in the disk
directory listing: ProSel and AppleWorks 5.1. (There are others, but I don't
use them).

Glen's solution of years 100 and up allow the directory to sort by date with
years 00 (actually 100) AFTER 99. Even older versions of AppleWorks _data
bases_ sort with 00 dates being newer than 99. This is something we couldn't do
in the 00 to 99 world, when 00 dates are relegated to the oldest part of the
list. There is no evidence that 1940 to 2039 plays a part at all. So, if we can
have dates from 2000 to 2039, where are they? If it's up to the application
programmer, they didn't make use of it.

Glen's solution also fixes day of the week and problems with functions like
@Today. On the other hand, Glen's solutions cause other problems, which I'm not
going to get specific about. So while I agree with you that this should have
been done 9 years ago, even now there is an argument for either side.
