Isopropyl alcohol can be used to clean many computer parts. It dries
quickly and won't leave a film as long as it's a decent brand and not
mixed with perfumes or such. I use it all the time in computer repair.
It can also be used to clean the monitor glass as long as it isn't
coated with anything. Be careful though with touch screens, some
of those are sensitive to alcohol. It is also useful for cleaning mice
and printer platens and print heads. If cleaning a print head, make
sure to remove the ink supply to avoid the alcohol damaging the ink.
If you need to clean the connection of the ink supply, use a lightly
coated paper towel and hold the cartridge so the ink is away from
the connection fitting and allow to air dry before turning it back.
I don't know of anything which will change the yellowing of plastic
due to age. However some yellowing is due to smoke, either from
a cigarette or from cooking smoke. Yellowing like this can be removed
with alcohol and a little scrubbing. But results will vary.
