You know, I've been thinking about this. Unlike the
128EX/2, the plain 128 can address the slot as slot 7
based on two switches you can flip on the bottom of
the Laser under the metal door. You'll have to give
up 3.5 drives, but that's not a big deal if you already
have a Focus in the slot. Thus, you should be able
to autoboot a Focus equipped plain Laser 128 after
all. ;-)
Besides, you need slot 5 clear because the internal
1MB memory is also addressed as slot 5.
Basically, to use the external slot, you either have to
give up 1MB memory expansion (slot 5) or 3.5 drives
(slot 7). Since you plan to use 1MB expansion, the
external slot should be assigned to slot 7.
