Desktop cases have their advantages. For IIGS
conversions, a desktop case will give you peace
of mind because the cards are not hanging in the
slots. For most cards, hanging sideways inside
a tower case with only the slot connection as
support is ok since they are light. However, if
you use a Focus hardcard, then you would not
be able to install it in a towerized IIGS. In such
a case, a desktop is a good alternative.
(For concerned tower users, I can think of one
solution. Run wires between front and back of
the case at each slot and let each card rest
on the wire. As long as you use insulated
wires and tighten them so that there is sufficient
tension, the cards are well protected and have
support while hanging sideways in their slots.)
