Actually, they have. When some programs with which I was familiar appeared on
Asimov last year, I argued with the sysop for about 5 minutes. He told me to
have the copyright holder contact him. I did. They did. The programs were
removed immediately.
We also contacted, or made every effort to contact, some other copyright
holders and authorized publishers. They either did nothing, or we were unable
to reach them. Their programs are still up there.
I don't particularly care for Jeff's assumtion that this is the consensus
around here, because it is not. Most of us have always respected copyrights,
and have always bought all our software legally. We wouldn't think of doing
anything else. How do you think TEXAS II keeps going? Because we have a large
contingent of users and supporters who actually BUY everything we can come up
with.
It would be good if Jeff could include some sort of statement whenever he
directs an unsuspecting novice to a product that has not been officially
released to the public by the owner or publisher, that it is not an official
release and could be considered illegal by some.
