Remember? Apple IIe Disk Cartridge Drive.

Ok, let's see if anyone remember these.

I have sitting in front of me a drive for the Apple IIe
that held five 5 1/4" diskettes in a plastic cartridge. 
Each of these diskettes held way more than the standard
diskettes, I think they were hard-sectored too.

You ended up slipping this cartridge of disks into a drive
about the size of a breadbox.

These were in-use in my high school in the counselor's area.
They were used for determining careers by giving a test and
matching to a career.  The disk pack cases had "Wisconsin Career
Information System" all over them.  I think they were used
for gathering student information for some study the University
of Wisconsin-Madison did sometime around October 1986.

This drive held alot of data for it's time.  I seem to remember
being able to fit something like 10-15 diskettes worth on these
packs.  I had a disk pack full of games that I would "rent" to
people in the computer lab.

Well, when I went back to visit my high school a long time ago, they
had one more of these left that they didn't want.  So I got it.

When I got it home, I made some phone calls.  I got hold of
some dealer that had 4 packs of brand-new disks for it.  I got
the last of them.  They're made by Dysan with a label that says
they're "UHRII  Cartridge with 5 Diskettes   REORDER #802903-12".
They're still shrink wrapped, hehe.

The big hassle is the TSR/Driver that had to be loaded up to
get this drive to work.  It only worked with Apple DOS and not
Pro-DOS.  I remember starting to rewrite it for Pro-dos when I
was in High School, but never finished.  Last time used this
drive was in 1992.  Ever since, it's been sitting in the closet
with the Apple IIe that it was hooked up to.


Someone else has to remember these drives.  Were they
used by anyone other than the Wisconsin Schools?


On the back of the drive it has two labels...
