comp.sys.cbm makes perfect sense for Commodore VIC20/64/128/etc. users
as CBM stands for Commodore Business Machines, the company that
created those machines. Just like this newsgroup used to be called
comp.sys.apple and it used to deal with questions about anything to do
with Apple Computer Inc. Later they split up the comp.sys.apple
newsgroup into comp.sys.apple2 for Apple II users and comp.sys.mac for
Mac users.
The only places that the term A2 has been used a lot is the Syndicomm
managed forums on Genie, Delphi and possibly other services and for
the new name of Open-Apple when Apple made them change their name to
A2-Central. New Apple II users wouldn't know that A2 referred to
Apple II. Heck, even some older users would get confused which is why
I agree with what Jay Edwards said that it would cause problems for
people who used to read this newsgroup thinking that the groups were
just discontinued rather than renamed. :-)
