ProTERM Special Emulation used control-P to switch to mousetext mode,
control-O for inverse mode, and control-N for normal mode.  There is no
inverse mousetext mode (depending on character ROM set, one or two
mousetext characters do have their inverse represented -- two on the IIgs,
one on the //e, not sure about the //c or //c+).

He means the mousetext characters.  Check your manual.

(I take it the FidoNet Gateway does not preserve/generate the References
header.)
