ASCII versions - for animation

I'm looking for information on the ASCII codes/screen codes for the
various 8bit computers, preferably with pictures of the resulting
displayed graphics. Details of screen modes (colours and dimensions)
would be very helpful also.

I already have these details for the C64 and BBC Micro. Any other 8bit
machine info would be appreciated.

The reason I am seeking these is in the subject line; animation.

Some of you may have seen the ASCII Star Wars at :
  http://www.asciimation.co.nz
This was mentioned on comp.sys.sinclair and people started asking if
this sort of thing had ever been done on a Spectrum.

I wish to develop a new type of FMV for the 8bits using ASCII art with
subtitles. I need to work out the screen dimensions compatible with
the highest number of machines possible (without leaving too many
machines using a tiny display), and how much leeway is available in
defining (simple) colour schemes (basically things like setting
underwater scenes to blue, and sunset scenes to red/orange etc.).

Again, all information would be appreciated; as would any
comments/suggestions/criticisms.
