For me, I've also done both.  I've never had a DS disk fail on
me but I've had problems with SS disks before.  Not many.
Just two instances.  One with a Data East SS disk and
one with an Elephant SS disk.  This was a long time ago
and may have just been random, but I've never used SS
disks to store anything important on both sides.
