Many folks have them in their closets. When they first
browse comp.sys.apple2 (csa2), they are often shocked
at what the computer has to offer. The unit is the
Apple IIGS and comp.sys.apple2 is the forum to find out
what this awesome machine is really capable of.

The Apple IIGS was the last of the Apple II computers.
Many folks remember the Apple II from school. Sadly,
this image diminishes our impression of how powerful
the IIGS really is. You see, while the Apple II had no
sound chip, the IIGS has a 32-voice wavetable
synthesizer. While the Apple II was 8-bits with a
64k memory space, the Apple IIGS was a 16-bit unit
with a 16MB memory space. It has a 12-bit palette
(4096 colors) and can display 3200 of them at once.
In fact, the IIGS was a totally new computer that was
only able to run the older 8-bit Apple II software
through emulation (it has an entire IIe shrunk on a
chip built in).

So if you have an Apple IIGS and always thought it
was merely an 8-bit Apple II, think again. As Apple
would say "Think Different." Come to csa2 and learn
to unlease the potential of this computer.

What do new users discover on csa2? Here are a
few examples:

Web browsing on the IIGS
TCP/IP on the IIGS
FTP, telnet, email through TCP/IP
Adding 8MB of RAM and 8MB of "ROM"
Playing Wolfenstein 3D
Using the HFS file system on the IIGS
Installing gigabyte+ hard disk drives
Treasure hunting for cards inside your IIGS
that may STILL be worth $hundred+!
Playing MIDI files on the IIGS
Playing MOD files on the IIGS
Finding CD-ROMs for the IIGS
Writing HTML on the IIGS
Running HyperCard on the IIGS
Desktop publishing on the IIGS
Faxing documents to and from the IIGS
Using laser and ink jet printers on the IIGS
Finding TrueType fonts for the IIGS
Finding software for the IIGS
Writing software for the IIGS
Helping build an Ethernet card for your IIGS
AppleTalk on the IIGS
Using Macintosh peripherals on the IIGS
Using Amiga peripherals on the IIGS
Using Apple II peripherals on the IIGS
Emulating an IBM XT on the IIGS
Emulating a Gameboy on the IIGS
Adding a new CPU to the IIGS to multiply speed 5x
Adding a math coprocessor to the IIGS

The list goes on and on. Here's an eye opener:

If more than half the things on the above list surprise
you about that computer in your closet, dust it off
and come to comp.sys.apple2 and use your IIGS
to the max!
