I don't really see the point.  Nobody is going to mix up the files on
their HD, are they?  Most likely, the files will be categorised
into directories or subdirectories of the relevant emulator. 
Eg.
Tapes/Spectrum/
Tapes/AppleII/
Tapes/ZX80/

Just stick them all under .TZX (or, more accurately, they should be
under ".8BT" (8 bit tape) or ".TPE" or something.)
