The main purpose was to support the Apple IIc LCD display.
The display just plugs into that.
Secondary purpose is video expansion. You can connect
either an analog or a digital RGB adapter to the connector.
These are called the Video 7 (they made analog and
digital versions) and used to be sold through Alltech
Electronics http://www.allelec.com/ although I don't know
if they still sell it.
