     This may be cheating ... Why not take your monitors to a local university
computer lab and ask someone to check them with a pattern generator which can
output PAL, NTSC, (and, maybe, SECAM) signals in color? Or, take them to a
local TV/monitor shop for a similar check.

     If it turns out _nothing_ gets you color, then, you'll know that the
monitors are probably defective. (If you bought the monitors from the same
place, this is even more likely.)

     If you get color, then you will know what sort of signal is required.
