Perhaps in Canada.  In the States, you really could go out and
buy a brand new IIGS until the very end and even for a time
after (at discount).

I mean, until the Apple Catalog itself was discontinued in 1992
(one year before the IIe was discontinued), you could BUY AN
APPLE IIE THROUGH THE CATALOG!

You also had to remember where many units ended up, in
schools.  They didn't get them through authorized dealers.
They ordered them from Apple right off the price list.  This
goes double for the early Apple II series, like the original II,
where they "seeded" the schools by giving away units.
