The chips I used to expand my second IIgs were soldered to a 286's
motherboard. No matter, I just torched the motherboard with my gas
powered soldering iron set to flame. When the solder melts, you pull the
chip off fast. I use this technique a lot to recover chips from old
boards and have never lost one. I read it in an old "Best of Byte" and
highly recommend it. Of course, the board's a write off, but that's not
a consideration.
