The main reason, I think, is that until recently, Windows units were
sold with more programs already on them than Mac units! Thus,
most of what a Windows user buys is games. The core applications
usually come with the computer.
But the more I learn about it, the more I'm inclined to get Linux as
a third OS for my computer. It seems the distributions come with
free application software, lots of them, for the price of a single
program in the Win or Mac worlds. The Star Office seems pretty
cool for the price.
