This is an interesting topic.  You can plug a GS RGB monitor right in and you
will get a nice color picture.  Many III users have done this.

However, this isn't exactly right.  You will get 8 colors instead of the 
available 16, and red and green will be reversed.

This is because the III really doesn't directly output RGB.  Instead, it
outputs the precursor signals to analog RGB.  To really get the correct 16
color output, you need to build an additional circuit which is described,
along with the wiring diagram, in appendix C of the Owner's Manual.

You can also get the right colors with a composite color monitor (like the 
Color //e) from pin 12 of the video connector.
