For the most part, it is a VERY simple way of connecting 2 computers
over the internet. Telnet sessions tend to be a lot like those phones
for the deaf (TDD phones?)--you type to the other computer, the
computer spits text back at you, and so on. If you Telnet into a
decent Unix account, you can do a very surprisingly wide range of
things.
