You are entirely incorrect.
AppleLink Personal Edition was a joint venture between Quantum Computer
Services and Apple Computer, Inc. (Not to be confused with AppleLink which was
run under GEIS services). It was available first for the Apple II and then for
the Mac. Simultaneous with that service there were two other services (PCLink
and QLink -- I may have the name of the second service wrong). Apple bailed
and sold out to QCS -- which became AOL shortly thereafter. Over time the
PCLink service was rolled into the AOL service and PC AOL software was made
available.
I tested ALPE back when it was called 'project Samuel' in the late 1980s. I
also beta tested ALPE/AOL for the Mac, PC, and some other stuff never
released.
