Apple has thus far refused to re-release AppleWorks GS as freeware.
However, http://www.allelec.com/ Alltech Electronics still has copies
of AWGS 1.1 for sale for $10. Quite reasonable considering the
number of disks, shipping, etc.

There is no better ftp site than ground, which is http browsable.

See http://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/

Now ground is a little different. Files are arranged in .shk/.txt pairs.
The .txt files are descriptions of the .shk files. The .txt files are
best viewed in http but the .shk files are best downloaded in ftp.
Thus, first browse the files using http:

http://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/[example program].txt

for example (note, this is not a real link, just an example). Next
if you want to download the program described, change http
to ftp and .txt to .shk. Like the following:

ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/[example program].shk

and right-click (on a Mac, click and hold) the link and select
save to download it.

There is also new commercial stuff like a web browser:

http://www.myesource.com/sevenhills/applesoftware/iigs/sis/sis.htm

also look at:

     http://www.sequential.com/ (Video cards and storage)
     http://www.allelec.com/ (Various hardware and software)
     http://www.hypermall.com/byteworks (OS, programming,
                                    books, and software)

And http://www.crl.com/~joko

Good luck! In the past few years, they've come out with FAX
software, web software, even Wolfenstein 3D freeware for the
IIGS! And Lemmings too, from the Joe Kohn site above.
