It depends on what the classroom is. If the classroom is for computer
sci, then I agree that newer units might be needed.
If the computer is a writing lab, the schools can make good use of
the IIGS. Heck, even at the university level, schools are still using
'386 PCs with WordPerfect for DOS v5.1. For the price, WordPerfect
GS and a room full of AppleTalked IIGS units would do just as well.
WordPerfect GS 2.2 has nearly the same functionality in an Apple
Talk environment connected to a good quality printer.
WPGS has a printer driver for an early HP printer (forgot the model),
but the codes apparently work fine for modern DeskJets and
LaserJets.
The main problem with schools is that they don't usually know what
these old computers are capable of. Show them a IIGS sending a
FAX, connecting to the web, sending email, of even running Word
Perfect GS and watch jaws drop. ;-) Educate them and they will
come.
