Re: My Asimov and Cabi mirrors

Hi, depending on how much ftp space you have, you may
also want to mirror the ground ftp server.

Here's their URL:

ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/

or via HTTP:

http://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/

I think their drive size is 1.7GB. This ftp server has files
not found on the other sites, which have an emulator
slant. Take a look at it. You can browse with your web
browser using the http link.

Note: ground files are organized into .shk/.txt pairs.
Click on the .txt files with your web browser to read the
descriptions. Right click on the .shk files to download
the programs being described.

The first screen you see shows you several links.
Choose "apple2" and you are brought to the root directory.
The main ones to be aware of here are the "apple8" and
"apple16" directories. The "apple16" directory in the root
directory contains folders of all sorts of Apple GS stuff. As
I explained in our email exchanges, some of this GS
stuff can't be found on the emulator site. Take a look at
the "graphics" directory in "apple16" for example. There
are many examples of 3200 color mode graphics and
graphics viewers. These usually can't be found on emu
sites, but like the demo I emailed you shows, these
are the coolest graphics for the IIGS. The reason they
are not on emulator sites is because emulators can't
handle them.

Also worth checking out are the "hypermedia" stuff,
which are also rare in emulator sites because neither
of the IIGS authoring programs work properly in XGS.
However, this is good stuff for real IIGS units. Also
check out the TrueType fonts and the music
programs/files for the IIGS. Thanks for mirroring!
