Re: MultiGS
David Swanson left the Apple IIgs world in November, 1995 - after he and
several of our 1WSW team members did the rewrite of NoiseTracker GS v2.0 - as a
GS/OS desktop application; 4-track MODFile Editor, creator and composer, Sound
Editor, NTGS module type 1 and type 2 and SoundSmith music converter/composer
program. We wanted to ad MIDI
support and music file conversions for that to the program also, but, never got
around to adding it with any more updates.
It was fantastic work of software rewrite and coding - fully GS/OS compliant -
with such options as RAM-Based Memory selection, Sound Level set at 25 to 100%,
a search and replace - cut and paste option (like word processors use) for all
of the special effects commands, notes, octaves, etc. that the spreedsheet
style 15 music tracks handled.
This was a complete rewrite from the last NTGS v1.4 of the original P8
versions. It had several major bugs that could have been worked out, had he
remained in the IIgs world as a programmer. But, all in all - It was an
amazing program from an amazing programmer. Shortly after we released NTGS
v2.0 as a freeware, he told me he'd been hired at a very good salary to go to
work for a game design and program company with many other old and talented
IIgs programmer - in Florida and that I could do whatever I wanted to with NTGS
v2.0, all of its beta's, src. codes and the other two P8 updates of NTGS v1.3
and 1.4 - he'd coded.
So, I released it all to public domain where it remains to this day on Ground
with nothing having been done for updates or enhancements to it.
Nobody has even shown an interest in it over the past few years now. And, I
doubt that anybody ever will either.
Just as his MultiGS was - in so many ways - much better than both of the
commercial programs like it (The Manager and SwitchIT) it was so poorly
received and he received so few shareware fees for it - he got a job
programming for the game machines and that was the end of his IIgs programming
efforts.
I'd guess that's what he's still doing today. I've had no contact with him
from 1995 to date. He sent me an update of MultiGS as v2.10b (I think that was
the version) - not really sure now, back in 1995... but, I've never used it.
I wish you luck with finding and contacting Dave. I've not had any. He
was not only a very fine IIgs programer but a wonderful person and a good
friend that I miss too.
Cheers,
Tom
