Yep, it's entirely possible, especially if the label on the EPROM fell
off, that the chips could have bit-rotted. It takes 10-15 years if the
chip is properly covered (the actual bit rot itself only takes a couple of
months as the chip erases itself), but if uncovered in direct sunlight, an
EPROM can erase in mere weeks. Nothing wrong with the chip, it's just
erased.
OTOH, I have no idea why I wasn't able to get my SCSI card working when I
was first *trying* to get it working, even after burning the Rev C EPROM.
But when I found the Transwarp, I plugged the SCSI card in (with the same
hard drive) and had no problems. Maybe it was the RAM board, or maybe it
was just the SCSI cable.
