The FAQ says that 5.0.4 requires less memory and is better as an
operating system for users with only 1.25MB of memory and it is
correct.  However, since you are just using the System Software
to copy disk image files from ProDOS to HFS 3.5" disks, you are
not going to need to launch any software.  You just need to boot
to Finder and for that, System 6.0.1 (bare bones install) can boot to
just the Finder in 1.25MB of memory.

Too bad the FTA is still not around.  They were a killer group
of demo programmers for the IIGS.  If you can find the disks,
the demos will knock your socks off.  They resemble Amiga
demos.  Both the IIGS and the Amiga had a large demo scene.
Was it that way with the Atari ST too?  The IIGS had a lot to show
off.  32-channel Ensoniq wavetable synthesis chip, custom
graphics chip with many color modes (3200 color, 256 multi-palette,
fill mode, etc.), and a disk port that demo programmers loved to
hack.

The FTA was in France and back in the days when they were
around, they would have loved to help you out.

Yes you can.  Just de-BinHex them and run them through
DiskCopy.  Make sure to use real DS/DD disks, not the HD
ones with tape over the extra hole.  Even with real DS/DD
disks, it may take a few tries.  The Mac does not always format
a perfect ProDOS disks.  The IIGS' OS is much better at using
Mac HFS disks.

Keyboard may have died with the LC.  Otherwise, your
IIGS may have a bad ADB chip.

You are welcome.  Good luck!  By the way, they made a Finder
for the IIc too, but you really need at least a 3.5" drive to use it
(the files do not fit on a single 5.25" disk).
